The year is almost up and I know many of you are eagerly awaiting an update on the final chapter of Dead@17. I have been saying for a few months that my goal was to finish by the end of the year and have the book in stores in early 2013. Did I reach my goal? The answer is (regretfully).... no. Right around October I was on track to make it happen, but the fates intervened and well, things changed. So that's the bad news. Now on to the good news.
The reason for the delay is simple. I got a job offer. A pretty cool job, too. Believe me, I wasn't looking for any more work, I've got more than enough on my plate as it is. It just sort of fell into my lap and I couldn't say no. Now, I know you're thinking, just shut up and tell us what it is. Well, I can't. Not yet. As soon as I'm allowed, I will announce it. All I can say is that it's a very hot property right now with lots of fans. And to cut off any speculation right now, it has nothing to do with Marvel or DC.
So what does all this mean for Dead@17? This new project will be consuming most of my time until about June. Originally I had planned to release the final Dead straight to graphic novel. However, I'm giving strong consideration to altering those plans and releasing it as a 6 or 7 issue series. This way, you can start seeing the story sooner (possibly as early as the summer) rather than much later. If you are one of the ones who pledged support by buying original art from the book, nothing has changed - I still have all your names and information. If I go the mini-series route, I would just hold on to all of the art until the series finished and then allow you to pick the pages you want.
But for Dead@17 fans, there is something else in the works that may whet your appetite until the series is released. Look for news on that in the coming weeks :)
Anyway, that's about it for the moment. I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding - I know some of you have been waiting to see this final series for a while now. I promise to do everything I can to make it worth the wait. Thanks again to all of you who purchase artwork and commissions from me, I truly appreciate your support. I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. There are some awesome things in store. I can't wait to share everything with you guys!
