I aplogize for neglecting my blog for far too long. I do most of my updating via Twitter, mainly because it's faster and easier and because I'm so busy, but that's still no excuse! Anyway, here's what's going on:
Dead@17: The Blasphemy Throne, the 7th and final series, has officially launched. Issues 1 and 2 are now available in fine comic book shops everywhere, and issue 3 will be released on October 22. There will be 7 issues total running all the way through February 2015 - and that's it! The story of Nara Kilday will come to a close!
If you haven't already, I would greatly appreciate your support by placing the series on pre-order at your local comic shop - it's never too late! Advance orders mean EVERYTHING in this business. Another big help would be to help spread the word online through social media. Just a one sentence review or shout out on Twitter or Facebook is a great help. LOTS of people are still either unaware that the series exists or that it has returned from hiatus. Most of the online reviewers & interviewers who followed the series during the early days have long since moved on to other things. So it's like I'm starting all over in a lot of ways. I am really, really proud of the ending I have written and would love for it to be seen by as many people as possible, espcially the fans who may be unaware or just got lost somewhere along the way.
I've noticed some comments online that some can't be bothered to catch up or feel overwhelmed by what's come before. There's a couple of easy solutions to that. 1) - Up until The Blasphemy Throne, there have been only 6 series - and those 6 series are available in only 3 trade paperbacks: The Ultimate Edition (containing vol. 1-4), Afterbirth (vol. 5), and The Witch Queen (vol. 6) - and those can all be purchased relatively inexpensively through Amazon (see sidebar). 2) All previous volumes are available digitally through iTunes, Kindle, Google Play, and many more. Just do a search. Chances are they are availabe for your device or method of choice. As for the current series, each individual issue is available through Comixology as they are released.
I always conceived Dead@17 as one story with a beginning, middle and end. It was never designed to run indefinitely or to be picked up at any given issue. Each issue and series matters and are all important pieces of the puzzle. I'm very excited to finally be able to reach the end and tell the ending like I've always wanted. Thank you to all of you who have remained faithful and supportive of the series. I can't thank you enough for allowing me the joy of telling this story to its conclusion.
Fans favorite creator Josh Howard begins an all-new saga and sequel to the popular DEAD@17 series with BLASPHEMY THRONE #1, the first issue in the seventh and final installment in the DEAD@17 story—and an epic finale that will take readers’ breaths away.
DEAD@17 follows the story of Nara Kilday, her subsequent death and resurrection, and her ongoing struggle with the forces of darkness. Nara's quest to discover her true nature and realize her destiny has put her in conflict with sinister cults, demon lords, a vampiric succubus, and even her closest friends.
At the conclusion of the previous series, DEAD@17: THE WITCH QUEEN, Nara found her spirit torn from her body as she attempted to escape Purgatory. Now, held captive by unknown entities in another dimension, Nara must find a way to return to Earth, reunite her spirit with her dying body, and put an end to the reign of Abraham Pitch and The Beast.
"I couldn't be more excited to finally be telling the conclusion to Dead@17 and to be doing it at Image. It's been a great ride, and I couldn't have done it without the support of the series' loyal and dedicated fans,” said Howard. “Having spent a third of my life with these characters, it's going to be hard to let them go, but I can't wait for everyone to learn the ultimate fate of Nara and her allies."
DEAD@17: BLASPHEMY THRONE #1 arrives in stores on 8/13 for $3.50. It is available to pre-order with Diamond Code JUN140473.
Help celebrate the end of Dead@17’s 10 year run!
Every year in July for San Diego Comic Con, I debut a brand new item, usually an art book of some kind. This year, with the first issue of Dead@17’s final chapter arriving in August, I wanted to do something special for the series’ sendoff. To that end, I will be offering a couple of advance, limited edition exclusive cover versions of Dead@17: The Blasphemy Throne #1, with bonus content that won’t be in the regular version. While Image Comics will be publishing the actual series, I will be funding these exclusive editions myself. To that end, the ordering system for this is set up a little different than how I normally do it. In order to secure your exclusive edition(s) of D@17: TBT #1, orders will be handled through GoFundMe.com.
So how does this work? Simply select the level you want to place your order. There are options for prints and original art as well. The posted goal does not have to be fully reached in order to make this exclusive edition a reality – these exclusive editions will be published even if the goal is not fully reached. I’m just trying a different method of collecting the orders while at the same time hoping to secure some extra funding to help keep me afloat as I devote the next few months to finishing the series. However, if the goal is reached, I will produce a 3rd exclusive cover edition that every $20 and up supporter will receive for free!
What will the covers look like? Well, they are not complete yet, but I can tell you a little about them. The first cover is going to be a recreation of the very first issue of Dead@17, featuring Nara in her new look for this series. The second cover is going to be an updated recreation of the Dead@17: Rough Cut #1 Beach Party Cover. This version is exclusive to this campaign and will NOT be sold at Comic Con.
The 3rd, goal-reaching bonus cover will remain a mystery for now :)
The books will ship late July/early August, ideally before the regular edition is released to stores in mid-August (however, I cannot guarantee all books will arrive before then). If you are attending Comic Con, you may pick up your books at the show.
As I announced on Twitter a few weeks ago, Dead@17 returns this August with its final 7 issue run entitled The Blasphemy Throne. Here's a 4 page preview that will be appearing in the next edition of PREVIEWS. However, this is a condensed/slightly re-edited version of how the actual scene will play out in the book.
I'm offering a limited number of commissions right now - click here for all the details!
UPDATE: That was fast! All spots are filled for now. My thanks to all of you who signed up! If you haven't already, be sure to send along your character requests.
After working on it for about a year, I can finally announce that the project that has been keeping me busy (and quiet!) is the first graphic novel for Mattel's Monster High. Written by Heather Nuhfer (Fraggle Rock, My Little Pony), the book runs 110 pages comprised of 6 short stories. I'm very honored that Mattel chose me to help bring one of their biggest brands to comics. The book goes on sale this July and can be pre-ordered now through Previews at your local comic shop or through Amazon.
** UPDATE **
Books are now in and will begin shipping this week!
Just letting everyone know that Dead@17: Archives should be arriving back from the printer within the next two weeks and will begin shipping immediately afterwards. Thanks for your patience!
